Egypt's national carrier EgyptAir will resume regular direct flights between Cairo and Port Sudan from August 5, the airline announced in a press release.
To mark the launch of flights, for the first time since the start of the civil war in Sudan, EgyptAir also offered a 50% discount on tickets for all passengers on the inaugural flight.
According to the local portal Sudan Tribune, the flights are expected to ease transportation constraints for the large Sudanese community residing in Egypt. The route will also facilitate trade and the movement of official and humanitarian delegations.
In May, Egypt and Sudan resumed river navigation after a long hiatus.
The civil war in Sudan between the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the regular army has been ongoing since April 2023.
