5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northeast Egypt

 A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Egypt, 38 km north of the city of Suez, with no reports of casualties or damage, according to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).

The depth of the hypocenter was 10 km.

"On August 3 at 03:00:34 local time, stations of the National Seismic Monitoring Network, part of the Institute, recorded an earthquake 38 km north of Suez. The Institute received reports that the earthquake was felt, but there were no casualties or material damage," the statement said.

In July, Egypt, Djibouti, and Nigeria expressed condolences to Japan over the loss of life caused by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on the island of Kyushu.

In March of last year, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Ethiopia.
