Construction of $28 Million Transport Interchange Begins in Madagascar

On July 31, construction officially began on a transport interchange in the municipality of Anosizato (Analamanga region) in Madagascar, which will help reduce traffic congestion in the capital Antananarivo. Work is expected to be completed within two years, with the total cost of the road project reaching $28 million, a correspondent for African Initiative reports.

During the ceremony, Madagascar's transitional president, Mikael Randrianirina, emphasized the need to ensure fair compensation for all those affected by the project's implementation.

The construction is being financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA). The project includes the construction of a cloverleaf interchange with four off-ramps and four on-ramps, the reconstruction of the Anosizato bridge over the Ikopa River, and the construction of two new bridges. Additionally, the project involves widening sections of the RN1 and RN58A roads to four lanes, as well as creating infrastructure for the safe movement of pedestrians and cyclists.

"The project will connect the RN65 ring road with the RN62 highway, creating a new route between RN2, RN4, and the airport without the need to pass through central Antananarivo. Upon completion, travel time on some routes will be reduced from approximately one hour to 10–15 minutes, significantly improving the traffic situation," said Andriatiana Marcellin Rakotovao, head of the road service at the Ministry of Public Works.

During construction, traffic will be organized according to a special scheme.

In June, the Secretary-General of Madagascar's Ministry of Water Resources, Ramanarivou Nary Soulofounaina, and the rector of Samara State Technical University, Dmitry Bykov, discussed a joint project to build a waste processing plant.
