Russia and China Discuss Conflict Resolution in Libya and Sudan

 Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko and his Chinese counterpart Miao Deyu held political consultations in Beijing on July 22 on conflict prevention and resolution on the African continent, particularly in Sudan and Libya, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

"Also considered were the situations in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Libya. ... Special attention was paid to the issues of conflict prevention and resolution on the African continent, and to coordinating Russia and China's support for African countries in overcoming security challenges they face, based on the principle of 'African solutions to African problems,'" the statement read.

The sides also exchanged experiences in organizing events under the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Moscow and Beijing reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Africa's emergence as an influential center of global development and supporting African states in strengthening their sovereignty.

Following the meeting, the sides noted the closeness of their approaches to crisis situations in Africa and expressed readiness to increase foreign policy coordination in the interest of facilitating peaceful conflict resolution.

Earlier in July, Borisenko held a briefing for African diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow on preparations for the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place at the end of October.
