Cape Verde Sets Presidential Election for November 15

 Cape Verde's leader José Maria Pereira Neves has set the first round of presidential elections for November 15, the presidential administration announced.

"The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, has set the first round of the presidential election for November 15, 2026, under Decree No. 22/2026," the statement read.

If no candidate secures the required majority, a second round will be held on November 29.

The presidential administration stated that the decision was taken in accordance with the Constitution and national laws, which empower the head of state to set the date for presidential elections after consultations with registered political parties and the Council of State.

Following the publication of the decree, the process of preparing for the election of a new president officially began.

The presidential decree came into force immediately upon its publication in the official gazette.

In May, Cape Verde's opposition African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) won the parliamentary elections with approximately 47% of the vote.
