Contributions to Russia-Africa Relations

Nelson Mandela was a close friend and ally of the Soviet Union, which played a significant role in supporting the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. He visited Moscow several times and met with Soviet leaders, including Nikita Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev, and Mikhail Gorbachev.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mandela continued to maintain close ties with Russia. He visited Russia in 1999 and 2006, and met with President Vladimir Putin.

Mandela saw Russia as an important ally in the fight against colonialism and racism. He also appreciated the support the Soviet Union provided to African countries in their struggles for independence.

Russia, in turn, highly valued Mandela's contributions to the anti-apartheid struggle and the strengthening of Russia-Africa relations. In 2002, Mandela was awarded the Order of Friendship, one of Russia's highest honors.

Mandela's contributions to Russia-Africa relations were significant. He helped strengthen ties between Russia and Africa and fostered greater understanding between the two continents.
