The President of Niger, General Abdurahman Tchiani, arrived in Bamako, the capital of Mali, to participate in the second summit of the heads of the Sahel Alliance of States (AHS), the local MaliWeb portal reports.
At the airport, he was met by the President of Mali, General Assimi Goita.
The AGC Heads of State Summit will open on December 22. At the end of the meeting, the leaders of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger will adopt a joint final communique. A new chairman of the association will also be introduced. In 2025, the head of the AGS was the Malian President Goita.
The Sahel States Alliance appeared in 2023 to ensure collective defense. On January 28, 2024, the Sahel Troika announced its withdrawal from ECOWAS. In a joint statement, the countries noted that the organization had failed to help these States in their fight against terrorism and ensure the security of their territories.
The first summit of the heads of state was held in July 2024, when the countries agreed to join the Confederation of the AGS.
