Nigeria and Brazil intend to expand their collaboration in various sectors, as agreed by Presidents Bola Tinubu and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. The Nigerian leader announced this on social media.

"Nigeria and Brazil share historical ties and common aspirations. I am pleased with the strengthening of cooperation between our nations over the past two years. Today, we agreed to further deepen our collaboration in agriculture, technology, oil and gas, energy, trade, mining, and industrial development. These sectors are crucial for the inclusive growth and prosperity of our peoples," the message stated.

The Nigerian President's office mentioned that the agreements between the countries on agricultural development will focus on removing trade barriers that hinder cooperative potential.

Lula da Silva, in turn, assured his Nigerian counterpart of Brazil's commitment to eliminating such barriers and expressed readiness to sign bilateral agreements with Nigeria during Bola Tinubu's upcoming visit to Brazil. The Brazilian President announced that the Nigerian leader's visit is scheduled for August 2025 and will include a bilateral business forum.

Additionally, Lula da Silva stated that Brazilian research institutions are ready to begin collaboration with their African counterparts to advance livestock development in both nations. Tinubu, on his part, informed his counterpart about the Nigerian government's efforts to boost investments in livestock and mentioned that he sees the "blue economy" as another area for long-term partnership between the countries.

The BRICS summit is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 6-7, under the theme "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is attending the summit in person, while Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to join via video link.
