Burkina Faso has called for the transformation of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) in order to adapt it to contemporary challenges. This was stated by the foreign minister of the West African country, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, during the 11th OACPS conference.
"It is crucial to focus the OACPS's activities on specific areas of significant interest to member states, based on the principles of solidarity, resilience, and innovation, while also taking into account changes in the international situation, marked by gross violations of international law and the rise of unilateral actions," the minister stated.
He paid special attention to strengthening multilateral cooperation and solidarity, as well as ensuring security in regions with high terrorist threats, including the Sahel.
"About 50% of all global deaths from terrorism occur in the Sahel region," Traoré noted.
Earlier in March, during the conference, Tanzanian Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi held talks with Eswatini's King Mswati III. The discussions also touched on finding ways to develop and strengthen cooperation, stimulate development, and reform the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.
