The Tanzanian government is interested in establishing a Russian special economic zone, stated Minister for Planning and Investment in the President's Office, Kitila Mkumbo, during a meeting with the head of the cooperation department of African Initiative.

"Tanzania has always advocated for diversification and open economic relations with all countries. Therefore, the arrival of Russian business in the Tanzanian market will bring not only investments and new jobs to the country, but also new technologies and knowledge," Mkumbo commented.

The minister confirmed that Russian investments and enterprises would be protected at the government level.

Mkumbo also added that the Tanzanian side supports the launch of direct flights, especially in the context of the tense political situation in the world.

"The government is interested in establishing comprehensive Russian logistics infrastructure for maritime delivery and storage of Russian goods, including Russian fertilizers, which would help avoid problems in agriculture ahead of the impending crisis in the global market," the minister added.

It was also noted that African Initiative could serve as a consulting intermediary between Russian businesses and the Tanzanian side.

Earlier in March, a source close to the country's leadership told AI that Tanzania's Minister of Transport, Makame Mbarawa, would come to Russia and hold negotiations on launching direct flights between the two countries.
