Burkina Faso Authorities Dissolve Over 350 Associations

Burkina Faso's Minister for Territorial Administration and Mobility, Émile Zerbo, has dissolved 359 local associations due to non-compliance with the country's legal requirements. The minister's communiqué was published on the ministry's social media channels.

"The activities of the associations listed in the appendix to this decree are suspended as of April 21, 2026, due to non-compliance with requirements for updating statutes and internal rules, as well as current legislation. During the suspension period, only actions aimed at regularizing the situation on a case-by-case basis are permitted," the document states.

The ministry reported that violations of the activity ban could result in penalties for the associations. The ministry also called on associations to comply with Burkinabe legislation regulating the operation of non-governmental organizations.

The dissolved associations operated in political, healthcare, religious, and artistic fields.

Earlier in April, Zerbo had dissolved 118 organizations. The reason for suspending those associations' activities was not specified at that time.
