Burkina Faso's Minister of Energy and Mines, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, held a meeting on February 13 with Algeria's Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab. Following the talks, the two parties agreed to develop cooperation in the mining sector, the Burkinabe government press service reported.
According to the press release, the sides agreed to partner in areas including the management of mineral rights, processing and marketing of products, exchange of geological exploration data, and management of mining revenues.
"We welcome the outcomes of the expert-level meetings between Burkina Faso and Algeria on hydrocarbons, mining, and energy. Today we have laid the foundation for significant cooperation in these fields," the Algerian minister stated.
Yacouba Zabré Gouba, for his part, noted that the meeting's results allowed Burkina Faso to "see the prospects for cooperation" with Algeria.
The government press service also added that the parties plan to explore opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector and hydrocarbon extraction.
Earlier in February, Gouba announced that Burkina Faso had produced a record 94 tons of gold in 2025, highlighting the growing importance of the mining sector for the Sahelian nation. The new partnership with Algeria, a major regional energy and mining player, aims to further develop this critical industry.
