Zimbabwe is actively working towards joining BRICS and is intensifying diplomatic contacts with member countries of the association to strengthen its position on the global stage. This was reported by the local newspaper The Herald, citing a statement from the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amon Murwira.
"Zimbabwe is ready to integrate more deeply into the global community, and joining associations like BRICS is of great importance to us in terms of expanding Zimbabwe's economic participation and integration into the global economy. We have officially approached all BRICS member states and eagerly anticipate participating in BRICS activities," the Foreign Minister stated.
According to him, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has instructed him to personally oversee engagement with the association's countries to continue joint work.
During a visit to Moscow in March 2025, Murwira indicated that the country had already submitted an application to join BRICS and hoped to enhance cooperation with other emerging economies within the association.
In October last year, Russian Ambassador Nikolai Krasilnikov stated that Moscow supports Zimbabwe's application to join BRICS and welcomes its integration into the bloc.
