Tunisian President Kais Saied has expressed the country's readiness to host a conference aimed at resolving the situation in Libya. This was announced by the leader's office following his meeting with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf on January 26.
"The President emphasized that Tunisia is prepared to host a comprehensive conference where Libyans can meet and freely choose their aspirations. He stressed that only the Libyan people have the right to determine their own fate, without any external interference," the release stated.
Saied also noted that consultative meetings could serve as a useful tool for restoring Libya's unity and fulfilling the people's expectations for a political settlement.
Attaf arrived in Tunisia to participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt within the framework of a trilateral mechanism for addressing the situation in Libya.
On January 26, the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt—Mohamed Ali Nafti, Badr Abdelatty, and Ahmed Attaf—held talks in Tunis. Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed the need to strengthen the mechanism for regular consultations on Libya in full accordance with the interests of the country's people but opposed any external interference in Libya's internal affairs.
In May 2025, the foreign ministers of Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia agreed to continue coordination among the three countries and with the UN to assess the situation in Libya, exchange views on the future political process, and develop cooperation mechanisms to achieve security, stability, and development in the region.
