Sudan's ambassador to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris, has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to launch an investigation into foreign states and organizations suspected of providing military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This was reported by the Sudan Tribune, citing the ambassador's remarks during a UN Security Council meeting.

"We urge the Prosecutor's Office to include in its investigation individuals and entities from foreign countries—including Sudan's neighbors, other African nations, and key regional sponsors," Idris stated.

He accused these external actors of enabling the RSF to continue their attacks by supplying smuggled weapons, logistical aid, food, equipment, drones, and missiles.

According to Idris, the ultimate goal of this support is to allow the RSF to seize control over parts of Sudanese territory and establish a parallel government.

The ambassador reaffirmed Sudan's readiness to cooperate fully with the ICC and appealed for international funding to assist with investigations into crimes committed in Darfur.

"Sudan calls on the international community to provide the financial and logistical resources needed for the ICC to investigate the grave crimes perpetrated in Darfur," he said.

Idris highlighted that Sudan has already been cooperating with the ICC, referencing a memorandum of understanding signed in August 2021 and the government's assistance in facilitating ICC delegations' visits. He noted that this cooperation serves as a basis for Sudan's request for an expanded investigation.

Previously, Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris accused RSF rebels of using hunger as a weapon against civilians, urging the UN to take action and open humanitarian corridors.

Sudan's civil war between the RSF rebel group and the national army erupted in April 2023.
