Due to heavy snowfall, a weather hazard level of six has been declared in the cities of Molteno, Matatiele, and the district of Joe Gqabi. In addition, a level five hazard was announced for the city of Buffalo and the regions of O.R. Tambo and Amathole because of the substantial precipitation, which could potentially lead to floods.
According to Senzelwe Mzila, a representative from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, disaster management teams in KwaZulu-Natal are on high alert and preparing for intense snowfall.
In Kokstad, the snowfall has resulted in the closure of roads. The Department of Transport has strongly advised drivers to delay their trips into the city, as trucks have already become stuck along the routes, causing traffic congestion.
