2025-07-28-22.00.15

During an official visit to the Republic of Niger, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev held talks with President Abdourahamane Tchiani. The Russian Ministry of Energy announced the meeting through its press service.

As part of the visit, the Russian delegation also engaged in discussions with Niger's Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine and Minister of Mines Ousmane Abarchi. The delegation included representatives from various business sectors and relevant ministries from Russia.

A central topic of the discussions was the establishment of an intergovernmental Russian-Nigerien commission focused on trade and economic cooperation. The Ministry of Energy noted that both parties view each other as significant partners, and the formation of this commission would help to structure their bilateral relations more effectively.

During the meeting, the groups explored opportunities for collaboration in energy, transportation, infrastructure, agriculture, and mining. Tsivilev stated, "We had fruitful negotiations with my ministerial colleagues today. I arrived with a large delegation that includes many representatives of Russian business. We received detailed presentations on the potential for cooperation that Niger has to offer. Now our teams are discussing how to implement this substantial potential face-to-face."

In the presence of the Russian Energy Minister and Niger's Minister of Mines, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Russian state corporation Rosatom and the Nigerien Ministry of Energy. This agreement focuses on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and related high technologies.

Tsivilev emphasized, "Our goal is not just to participate in uranium extraction; we aim to build a complete system for developing peaceful nuclear capabilities in Niger. This includes constructing power generation facilities to ensure accessibility for every resident of the country, as well as collaborating in the field of nuclear medicine. We also agreed to jointly train specialists in this area."

Earlier in July, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin appointed Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev as the head of the Russian side of the intergovernmental Russian-Malian commission for trade, economic, and scientific-technical cooperation.
