Trade turnover between Russia and Egypt in the agricultural sector grew by 7% in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, following video conference talks between the ministry's head, Oksana Lut, and Egypt's Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk.
The talks were also attended by Bahaa El-Ghannam, head of Egypt's Mustaqbal Misr sustainable development agency.
"In the first quarter, bilateral trade volume increased by 7%, including a 5% rise in Russian exports. The basis of Russian supplies traditionally consists of grains and oil and fat products, while fruits, vegetables, and berries are mainly imported. Trade in mineral fertilizers also holds significant potential — last year, turnover in this sector grew by 68%," the press release stated.
During the conversation, Lut noted Russia's interest in maintaining a high level of trade relations between the two countries and expressed Russia's readiness to increase grain exports to Egypt.
The sides also discussed opportunities for implementing joint projects, including those involving private business.
In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, stated that Russia and Egypt could discuss the creation of a grain and energy hub in the North African country.
In January, Lut and El-Ghannam discussed the development of bilateral agricultural partnership during a meeting in Dubai, UAE.
