The administration of US President Donald Trump has recalled ambassadors from 15 African countries in connection with a review of the United States' foreign policy. This is reported by the Associated Press, citing sources in the US State Department.

The ambassadors to Algeria, Egypt, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia and Uganda have been suspended.

The heads of diplomatic missions were informed that their term of office expires in January. According to the newspaper's sources, the diplomats will return to Washington for other assignments.

All the ambassadors were appointed to positions under former US President Joe Biden. Immediately after Trump's election victory, the heads of the United States diplomatic missions in South Africa and Kenya resigned.
