Major Reshuffle in Togo's Military and Intelligence Leadership

 Major personnel changes have taken place in the leadership of Togo's Armed Forces and key security structures, the publication Togo Matin reports, citing the Council of Ministers' appointment decisions of August 17.

One of the main decisions was the appointment of Colonel Tchakpélé Aklesso as Chief of the General Staff of the Togolese Armed Forces (FAT). Concurrently, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. He succeeded General Dimini Allaharé, who had held the position since 2024.

The changes also affected the command of the main branches of the military. Colonel Kombaté Latiembé was appointed Chief of Staff of the Army, and Colonel Abdou Ahabou Idrissou was appointed Chief of Staff of the Air Force. Colonel Kilimu Mazama-Esso was appointed to lead the Special Staff of the Chairman of the Council of Togo.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Faure Gnassingbé, signed eight decrees providing for the restructuring of the leadership of the country's military, intelligence, and aviation structures.

The reshuffle also extended to the intelligence service. The National Intelligence Agency (ANR) was placed under the leadership of Colonel Akapo Ayevalagni, with Essowè Samaru appointed as his deputy. Additionally, Brigadier General of Aviation Mama Agbidofé Essomoulam was appointed Director General of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).

Earlier in August, Cameroon's President Paul Biya appointed new leadership within the Ministry of Defense and promoted five senior officers to the rank of Brigadier General.
