Iran intends to develop partnership with Burkina Faso in the fields of science, industry, and defense. This was stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian following talks with the African country's Minister of Defense, Célestin Simporé, in Tehran.
"[Masoud Pezeshkian] expressed Tehran's full readiness to transfer technical knowledge and expertise to Burkina Faso in the scientific, industrial, and defense spheres," the press release from Pezeshkian's office stated.
He also emphasized that Iran's approach to partnership with African nations is long-term and based on mutual benefit.
"The Iranian President also praised Burkina Faso's spirit of independence and its anti-hegemonic stance, expressing confidence in the country's victory over terrorism," the statement read.
Simporé, for his part, praised "the long-standing resistance of the Iranian people to international pressure and sanctions."
"He called Iran's defense and technological achievements a symbol of strategic self-sufficiency. Emphasizing ... Burkina Faso's struggle against instability, Simporé noted that his country draws inspiration from Iran's experience," the release stated.
In November of last year, Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and the special envoy of Iran's Foreign Minister, Khosravi Nejad Akbar, discussed bilateral relations during a meeting in Ouagadougou.
In September 2024, Iran and Burkina Faso signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy, including bilateral partnership in research and education, as well as the implementation of joint projects.
