Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon Agree to Jointly Develop Gas Field

Vice President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue and Cameroon's Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Kalistus Gentry Fuh, have signed an agreement for the joint development of a natural gas field in the Yoyo-Yolanda area on the border of the two countries. This is stated in a press release from the Cameroonian ministry.

"The signing ... of the agreement for the joint development of the Yoyo-Yolanda cross-border gas field between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea marks a turning point on the path to the effective launch of this major project. ... The next crucial step will be the signing of an operating agreement," the statement reads.

According to Cameroon's Ministry of Mines, the Yoyo-Yolanda field is located offshore at a depth of approximately 2.5 kilometers. It is about 35 kilometers long and 1.2 to 5 kilometers wide. 84% of the field's resources belong to Cameroon, and 16% to Equatorial Guinea, with total estimated natural gas reserves of 70.5 billion cubic meters.

"Following the agreement signing, the next steps are expected to include ... the installation of a gas processing platform, drilling of production wells, and construction of export pipelines," the release states.

In September 2025, Equatorial Guinea's Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Antonio Oburu Ondo, announced that the country would launch a new oil and gas licensing round in April 2026 to intensify exploration and counteract declining oil production.
