The number of confirmed Ebola cases in Uganda has risen to 15, the country's Ministry of Health announced on social media.

"Six new cases have been confirmed among individuals who had contact with confirmed cases," the statement said.

The ministry also reported that one person has died from the disease, two patients have recovered, and twelve are receiving treatment. A total of 668 people are under observation.

At the end of May, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in Uganda rose to nine after the disease was confirmed in two citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) who were in the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the new Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda as a public health emergency of international concern. On May 29, authorities in the DRC reported that the number of suspected deaths from the disease had exceeded 1,000.

In response to the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda, authorities in Zambia, Burundi, Tanzania, and Rwanda have announced measures to combat the infection.

Ebola is a severe, acute viral disease with a high fatality rate. Transmission occurs through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals, as well as with contaminated surfaces and materials.
