Faustin-Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic (CAR), arrived in Brussels for a working visit, where he met with Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Humanitarian Aid, and Crisis Management, according to the president's office.
The meeting was held at the headquarters of the European Commission and centered on boosting cooperation and increasing European support for CAR's development, especially as the country prepares for upcoming elections and grapples with humanitarian challenges.
"Hadja Lahbib congratulated the president on the beginning of collaboration with the European Union and assured him of the Commission's commitment to continued assistance for CAR. In 2025, EU support reached 19.7 million euros, funding 17 projects. The president, in turn, thanked Lahbib and EU members for the effectiveness of their multilateral partnership," the statement said.
Touadéra also called on the EU to provide additional support to better manage the humanitarian situation in CAR and fully implement the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation (APPR), which has already begun reintegrating members of armed groups. The president's office described the European Union as a "strategic partner" for CAR, and noted that the EU is using "a comprehensive and multidimensional approach" to strengthen these ties.
At the end of May, Touadéra stated that his main goal as president is to make CAR a prosperous nation.
