Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, expressed support for strengthening Russia's relationship with Somalia during a meeting with Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament's Senate, the Federation Council press service reports.

"Russian senators are open to cooperation and dialogue, willing to share their experience and coordinate positions on key regional and international issues at global forums," said Matvienko. She noted that recent Russia–Africa summits have helped identify new areas for partnership.

Matvienko also highlighted that Russia and Somalia have maintained traditionally friendly relations.

"The Soviet Union played a role in helping Somalia build its statehood. Hundreds of our specialists took part in constructing social infrastructure facilities, while technical equipment and machinery were supplied. More than 20,000 Somali teachers, doctors, engineers, and other professionals were educated in Soviet universities," she added.

Abdullahi, in response, reaffirmed Somalia's eagerness to cooperate with Russia.
"Every meeting and every interaction offers us invaluable experience," said the Somali Senate Speaker.

Earlier in May, Somalia's ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Abukar Zubeyra, also stated that Somalia aims to develop partnerships with Russia in various fields, including the economy. He emphasized that Russia's advanced technology and other industries are of great interest to Somalia.
