Angola's diamond production for the first nine months of the current year reached 10.7 million carats, with the annual target for 2025 set at 14.8 million carats. This was reported by Reuters, citing the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor.

The African country mined a record 14 million carats in 2024, making it the third-largest diamond producer globally, trailing only Russia and Botswana.

Speaking at an industry event, Victor specified that diamond production volume in Angola for the first half of 2025 exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 23.2%. However, he did not provide data for the first nine months of 2024 for a direct comparison with this year's performance.

The Secretary of State added that the growth drivers were the operational stability of the Catoca and Luele companies, which are owned by the Angolan state-owned company Endiama and Taadeen, a subsidiary of Oman's sovereign fund.

At the same time, the official reported that the export value of rough diamonds from Angola decreased by 14% in the first nine months of 2025, despite a doubling of the volume supplied, due to falling gemstone prices. He cited competition with synthetic diamonds, global economic instability, U.S. trade tariffs, and stagnation in the Chinese market post-pandemic as reasons for this price decline.

In September, the CEO of Russia's Alrosa, Pavel Marinychev, stated that the company was satisfied with the results of the deal to sell its stake in the Angolan Catoca project.

In January last year, Angola asked Alrosa to exit the Catoca diamond mine. The reason was that due to sanctions against Moscow, dealers faced difficulties in selling minerals mined at the site.

In June 2025, Alrosa completed the sale of its stake in Catoca. Currently, 59% of the project's shares are owned by the Angolan company Endiama, and 41% are held by Taadeen. Previously, the 41% stake belonged to Alrosa.
