The United States and Libya engaged in talks regarding potential military cooperation during an official visit to Washington by Abdul Salam Zoubi, Libya's Deputy Minister of Defense. According to Libya's Ministry of Defense, this marks the first official visit of a Libyan defense representative to the Pentagon in over a decade, highlighting a renewed phase in US-Libyan relations.
During his stay, Zoubi held meetings with David Keith, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, and Rear Admiral Erin Osborne from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The discussions focused on strengthening military ties between the two countries, with particular attention to training programs, capacity building, and joint efforts in counterterrorism. Both sides expressed mutual interest in expanding security collaboration to confront common threats and enhance regional stability.
As part of his visit to the United States, the Libyan envoy will also participate in the 2025 Special Operations Forces Week, which will be held in Florida from May 5 to May 8. This international event brings together military officials, security experts, and defense companies from around the world to exchange best practices and discuss new challenges facing special operations forces.
