Rwandan Team Wins African Basketball League

 Rwanda's RSSB Tigers basketball team defeated Angola's Petro de Luanda with a score of 90-88 to become champions of the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL), according to a press release from the US National Basketball Association (NBA).

"The Tigers are the first team from Rwanda to win the BAL championship," the NBA reported.

The final game concluded the 2026 season, which set records on several fronts. More than 110,000 spectators attended league matches, while BAL broadcasts and content garnered over 1.1 billion views on social media. The tournament reached audiences in 214 countries and territories, a new high for the league.

The season's standout star was RSSB Tigers guard Craig Randall II, named the 2026 tournament's Most Valuable Player. He averaged 36.1 points per game and set a league record by scoring 54 points in a single match.

Other season award winners included RSSB Tigers head coach Henry Mwinuka (Coach of the Year) and center Mangok Mathiang (Defensive Player of the Year).

In mid-May, Algeria's USM Alger club won the CAF Confederation Cup, defeating Egypt's Zamalek 8-7 in a penalty shootout in the final.
