The Russian national football team lost to Egypt in a friendly match as part of their summer training camp. The match on May 28 at Cairo International Stadium ended with a score of 1–0, the Russian Football Union (RFU) reported.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 65th minute by Mostafa Abdelraouf, who came on as a substitute during the first half.
More than 2,000 Russian fans were present at the stadium. The national team's Telegram channel noted that this was the largest away following for the team in this decade.
"The overall impression of our performance is decent. I said even before the game that this is a strong opponent. That is why we needed to play them — to understand our level. It was clear that this is the strongest or one of the strongest opponents in recent times," said Russian national team head coach Valery Karpin following the match, as quoted by Sport24.
In the FIFA rankings, Egypt's national team is in 29th place, while Russia is in 36th.
The national team will play its next friendly match against Burkina Faso on June 5 in Volgograd.
