The Russian Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo held a ceremony to inaugurate an exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first DRC Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This was announced by the embassy on social media.
The event at the National Museum of the DRC was attended by over 200 guests, including representatives from the country's presidential administration, members of the government and parliament, diplomatic corps in Kinshasa, and staff from the UN Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO).
Also present were the first Prime Minister's daughter, Juliana Lumumba, Director General of the Patrice Emery Lumumba Foundation Michel Kitoko, Rector of RUDN University Oleg Yastrebov, and Head of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in the Republic of Congo Maria Fakhrutdinova.
During the ceremonial part, Russian Ambassador Karl Tikhaze presented the Chairman of the Executive Board of Kinshasa Free University, Médard Bomboko Bokete, with the "For Friendship and Cooperation" award on behalf of Russotrudnichestvo. The embassy highlighted that Bokete was honored for his work in promoting humanitarian cooperation and the Russian language in the DRC.
The exhibition featured materials from the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation, news agencies, the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents, and photographs from the personal archive of Patrice Lumumba's family. Additionally, the local Biso Ajak group performed traditional dances at the event.
Earlier in July, RUDN University also hosted celebrations marking Lumumba's centenary.
