The Russian Embassy in Egypt organized an iftar — the evening meal with which Muslims break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan — for beneficiaries of a children's charitable foundation and their parents. The Russian diplomatic mission in Cairo announced this on March 17.

"The Russian Embassy in Cairo continued its annual tradition of organizing charitable events during Ramadan by holding an iftar together with the Children's Fund 'Auladna' ... for its beneficiaries and their parents," the statement read.

During the event, Russia's Chargé d'Affaires in Egypt, Yuri Matveev, also congratulated the guests on the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

"[Matveev] wished Egypt continued prosperity and emphasized our country's commitment to strengthening the historic friendly ties between the two peoples," the release stated.

On the night of March 19-20, 2026, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, also known as Uraza Bayram, one of the two largest holidays in Islam. Eid al-Fitr, which means "festival of breaking the fast," is celebrated annually at the end of Ramadan.

Earlier in March, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed organized an iftar for refugees from African and Middle Eastern countries.
