Pope Leo XIV will make his first official visit to Algeria on April 13-15, according to local media outlet Casbah Tribune, citing diplomatic sources.

"Pope Leo XIV will visit Algeria for an official visit on April 13, 14, and 15. ... The announcement of this trip is expected to be made next week by the Vatican," the news portal reported.

According to sources, the pontiff will visit Algiers and Annaba. The program includes an official address, as well as visits to the Cathedral of Notre Dame d'Afrique and the Basilica of St. Augustine in Annaba.

Earlier in February, the Vatican's new ambassador to Algeria, Javier Herrera Corona, mentioned plans for the trip during the presentation of his credentials to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The diplomat described the meeting as "very cordial" and emphasized that relations between Algeria and the Holy See span more than 50 years.

In January, the Apostolic Nuncio to Angola announced that Pope Leo XIV would make his first trip to African countries as pontiff.
