Libya's Permanent Representative to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, held talks with his Russian counterpart, Vasily Nebenzya. The sides discussed the settlement of the crisis in the North African country, as reported by the Libyan diplomat on the social network X.

El-Sonni noted that the meeting in New York was part of "ongoing consultations and coordination with UN Security Council member states."

"We discussed the latest developments in Libya, the challenges facing the political track, and the roadmap proposed by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Libya (Hanna Tetteh - 'AI'), as well as the key role Russia can play in maintaining stability in Libya," the Libyan diplomat wrote.

The Libyan News Agency (LANA) adds that the talks took place ahead of a UN Security Council meeting, which will be held under the presidency of Russia, the presiding country of the Security Council for October. It is expected that on October 14, Tetteh will deliver a report on the current situation in the country and the prospects for implementing the political process.

In September, Tetteh stated that the instability in Libya poses a threat to the African and Mediterranean regions and expressed hope for Russia's assistance in resolving the conflict.
