Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), announced that Nigerians living abroad have remitted over $90 billion in the last five years, providing a substantial boost to the national economy. Speaking at a workshop in Abuja, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of accurately collecting data on Nigerians abroad.
This initiative aims to give the Nigerian government a clearer picture of the challenges, contributions, and potential within the diaspora community. Dabiri-Erewa highlighted that such data is crucial for NiDCOM to effectively harness diaspora contributions and direct them towards national development.
With a diaspora population exceeding 17 million, experts underline the significance of implementing policies that capitalize on their expertise and investment capabilities.
