On June 25, Niger's Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Mahaman Lamin Zeine, held a meeting with the Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union, Olavi Vojonmaa, as reported by the Niger Press Agency (ANP).

Vojonmaa stated to journalists after the audience that the meeting offered him a chance "to introduce himself as the Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union in Niger."

"We were also able to discuss the EU-Niger relations, especially in light of the recent visit by the EU Special Representative for the Sahel," he added.

According to the diplomat, the meeting was an opportunity to emphasize the importance of "turning the page, moving forward, and fostering good relations between the European Union and Niger."

In December 2023, Niger terminated two key agreements with the EU regarding cooperation in security and defense.
