Niger's President, Abdourahamane Tchiani, has presented the country's highest national distinction, the "Order of Merit to the Nation," to Saddam Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Army's Ground Forces. According to Al Wasat, citing the Libyan military's press office, the award ceremony took place as part of Haftar's official visit to Niger.

President Tchiani commended the efforts of Haftar and his forces in the fight against terrorism and expressed gratitude for Libya's continued contribution to regional security and stability. The president also highlighted the importance of strengthening military and security cooperation between Niger and Libya to address shared challenges and promote peace in the region.

During their meeting, both delegations discussed current regional and international developments, exploring opportunities to deepen military and defense partnerships between the two countries. The talks demonstrated a clear commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in order to enhance stability across the region.

In addition, Saddam Haftar conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, reaffirming the strong relationship between Libya and Niger.

Saddam Haftar arrived in Niger for the working visit on May 22, and was received with a formal welcoming ceremony. Earlier, in July 2024, Haftar traveled to Burkina Faso, where he met with President Ibrahim Traoré to discuss issues of regional security and partnership in West Africa.

These visits underscore the ongoing efforts by Libyan and Nigerien authorities to foster closer ties and work together in addressing the security needs of their neighboring states.
