Niger's Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Lamine Zeine, met with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani to discuss expanding cooperation in the military sphere and in the field of counterterrorism. This was reported by the Niger Press Agency (ANP).
During the meeting in Niamey, both sides expressed interest in deepening the partnership between Niger and Italy across all sectors. The Italian delegation also requested information on the security situation in the Sahel.
"We want to cooperate much more with Niger in all areas, particularly in the military sphere, agriculture, industry, and investment. Niger and Italy will work together to conclude mutually beneficial agreements, and both countries will jointly develop and strengthen these relations, especially in the field of counterterrorism," Tajani told journalists following the negotiations.
The meeting was attended by members of the government, the Chief of Staff of the President of Niger, and the Italian Ambassador to the West African country.
In October, the President of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, visited Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, where he met with the head of state, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The parties discussed security, cooperation, and development issues within the framework of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
