Niger's Minister of Economy and Finance, Maman Lawali Abdou Rafa, officially opened a new customs office in the city of Tahoua on April 25, the Niger Press Agency (ANP) reports.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Abdoulaye Seydou; the Director General of the Niger Customs Administration, Mouhamadou Yacouba; the President of the Niger Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIN), Moussa Sidi Mohamed; as well as representatives of regional services and security forces.

The complex was built on an area of 5 hectares. Its implementation, costing 916.7 million CFA francs ($1.64 million), was financed by the CCIN from its own funds. The complex includes a truck parking area, a warehouse, administrative buildings, as well as water and energy supply infrastructure.

According to the minister, the project aims to develop the private sector and eliminate infrastructure constraints that hinder economic growth. Furthermore, Niger's authorities view infrastructure development as a key element of economic reforms and the strengthening of the domestic resource base.

In February, Niger's Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, officially opened a branch of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) in the city of Tahoua.
