MK Party logo

The protests which occurred on June 26, 2024, was part of a series of demonstrations organized by the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party across various cities in KwaZulu-Natal. The protests were primarily driven by frustrations over service delivery issues and the recent Constitutional Court ruling that barred their leader, Jacob Zuma, from contesting in the general elections due to his past sentence. As well as protesting for re-votes as the MK party with a consortium of different political parties say the elections were rigged. Yesterday in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal strong hold the protest included a march through the city with participants demanding better governance and immediate improvements in public services such as water supply and electricity. The party was also present at the magistrate court in Pietermartizburg awaiting trial for one of the IEC officials charged.

All this while in the background millions are jobless, landless and pretty much hopeless at this point that the current regime will make any new changes. As the Democratic Alliance part of the new government is speaking about preserving property rights and the rule of law. Despite the fact that people in the Western Cape where the DA governs is among South Africa's most unequal province in the country. The MK party being a left wing Zulu nationalist party is fighting for the redistribution of land.
