Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and Iran's Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister, Hossein Niazi Nejad Akbar, discussed bilateral relations during a meeting in Ouagadougou. This was reported on the website of the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"On the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Abdoulaye Diop met on November 26, 2025, in Ouagadougou with the Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Niazi Nejad Akbar. The exchange of views focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries," the press release states.

The diplomats also discussed prospects for cooperation between the AES and Tehran.

Earlier in November, a meeting of foreign ministers of the AES—which includes Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso—was held in Ouagadougou. They discussed preparations for the Alliance's Council of Ministers meeting and the second session of the AES Heads of State Assembly.
