Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Africa on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi, according to press releases from the African countries' foreign ministries.

Badr Abdelatty (Egypt), Gedion Timotheos (Ethiopia), and Ronald Lamola (South Africa) paid courtesy visits to the Indian Prime Minister on May 14.

"Abdelatty met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as with the foreign ministers of BRICS member states and partner countries, on the sidelines of the group's ministerial meeting held in New Delhi," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

During the meeting with Modi, South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that BRICS could become "an important vehicle in transforming and strengthening multilateral systems of peace so that they can truly serve the interests of the countries of the Global South."

Earlier in May, Ethiopia and India discussed participation in peacekeeping operations and partnership in peace and security.

BRICS is an intergovernmental association founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China. They were later joined by the Republic of South Africa, followed in 2024 by Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, and in 2025 by Indonesia.

On May 14-15, a meeting of the foreign ministers of BRICS countries, chaired by India, is taking place in New Delhi. During the event, ministers will discuss the outcomes of twenty years of BRICS cooperation, as well as prospects for its further development in key areas – politics and security, economics and finance, and humanitarian ties.
