According to Al-Jazeera, citing its sources, 11 people were killed, including civilians, after a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebel assault on the city of Kosti in North Darfur, Sudan.

Witnesses reported that on April 29, RSF used a drone to strike a Sudanese Armed Forces fueling station and the headquarters of the 18th Army Division. The rebels launched another drone attack on the morning of April 30, but the army managed to repel it with anti-aircraft fire.

Among the dead and wounded were members of elite army units as well as militia fighters allied with the Sudanese military.

Earlier in April, 74 people were killed in West Kordofan State following a shelling carried out by the rebels.

Sudan's civil war between the RSF rebel group and the regular army began in April 2023. Over 20,000 people have been killed, more than 14 million have become displaced, and 25 million are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

On January 24, the government army announced it had broken the RSF siege of Khartoum, and on January 26, Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan returned to his headquarters for the first time since August 2023. On March 27, government forces fully retook Khartoum from the rebels. On March 28, Sudan's leader declared that the country was preparing to transition to civilian rule.
