Guinea's Supreme Court has confirmed the victory of transitional President Mamadi Doumbouya in the presidential election. This was reported by the local agency BambouGuinée, citing the final results announced by the country's Supreme Court.

The decision was delivered by Court President Fodé Bangoura. Accordingly, Doumbouya received 4,594,262 votes, representing 86.72% of the total valid ballots. The voter turnout was 82.86%, with over 5.6 million people participating in the election.

Second place was taken by Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé, who received 6.59% of the votes. Faya Lansana Millimouno received 2.04% of the votes, Hajjou Makalé Camara received 1.59%, while the other candidates each secured less than 1%. The Supreme Court also reported that Baldé voluntarily withdrew his legal challenge against the preliminary election results.

In accordance with Article 57 of the Constitution, which provides for the election of the president in the first round upon obtaining an absolute majority, Mamadi Doumbouya will become President of Guinea for a seven-year term.

On December 30, the head of Guinea's General Directorate for Elections (DGE), Djénab Touré Camara, announced that Doumbouya had secured 86.72% of the votes in the election, preliminarily winning in the first round. Earlier in December, Touré had stated that Doumbouya was leading in 15 out of 50 electoral districts.

The elections in Guinea were held on December 28 in accordance with the new constitution, the text of which was approved by citizens in a September referendum. The amendments to the fundamental law were supported by 89.83% of voters.

The new constitution consists of 199 articles. It establishes the basis for future presidential, parliamentary, and municipal elections. The law allows transitional President Mamadi Doumbouya to run for the country's leadership.

In November, Guinea's Supreme Court published the final list of nine candidates approved to participate in the presidential election: Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé from the Democratic Front of Guinea party, former Foreign Minister Hajjou Makalé Camara, Ibrahima Abé Silla from the New Generation for the Republic party, Faya Lansana Millimouno from the Liberal Bloc, Abdoulaye Kourouma from the Rally for Renewal and Development (RRD) party, Mohamed Nabé from the Alliance for Renewal and Progress, Elhadj Bouba Keita from the Rally for a Prosperous Guinea, and two independent candidates: Mohamed Cherif Tournkara and transitional leader Mamadi Doumbouya.

In 2021, a military coup occurred in Guinea, during which the military ousted President Alpha Condé. The coup was led by Mamadi Doumbouya. Following the takeover, the military established the National Committee of Reconciliation and Development as the country's supreme governing body and replaced the old constitution with a Transition Charter. In October of the same year, Doumbouya was sworn in as transitional president.
