In a significant development aimed at bolstering public healthcare, the government has announced the creation of 1,650 new jobs to address the growing demands of the sector.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi revealed these employment plans during a press briefing held in Centurion on Thursday. The announcement follows nationwide demonstrations in 2024, where protesters urged the government to prioritize job creation within healthcare.
Minister Motsoaledi stated that the initiative aligns with the recently approved national budget presented by the Finance Minister in March.
"The council has given the go-ahead to advertise vacancies for 1,200 doctors, 200 nurses, and 250 other healthcare professionals. Our human resources department will soon begin the recruitment process," said Motsoaledi.
This move is expected to significantly alleviate staffing pressures in healthcare facilities across the country, thereby enhancing service delivery and patient care.
