Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun have signed an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports, Ablakwa announced on social media.
"This is the first visa waiver agreement between our countries in nearly 50 years of formal bilateral relations," Ablakwa stated.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers' Meeting. According to Ghana's top diplomat, this event directly implements the agreements reached during the working visit of Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama to South Korea in March.
"Negotiations to include ordinary passport holders in the agreement will continue," Ghana's Foreign Minister added.
In March, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama signed three partnership agreements following talks in Seoul, including a memorandum of understanding on maritime security cooperation between South Korea's Coast Guard and Ghana's Navy.
