The former Prime Minister of Chad and leader of the opposition "Transformers" party, Succès Masra, was arrested at his home on the morning of May 16, according to Ndolembai Sade Njesada, Vice President of the party's parliamentary group.

The Republic's prosecutor confirmed the arrest to RFI radio. He stated that a criminal case has been opened against Masra, though he did not specify the exact charges.

Masra had been in exile since 2022. After returning to Chad in November 2023, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno appointed him as Prime Minister.

During the 2024 presidential election campaign, Succès Masra ran for president alongside Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.

Itno claimed victory in the election with 61.03% of the vote, while Masra received 18.53%. The opposition leader did not recognize the election results and resigned as Prime Minister after Itno's inauguration. Masra also accused France of hindering the democratic process in the Sahel.
