First Shipment of Wheat Sent from Baltic Sea Port to Egypt

 The inaugural shipment of wheat has been dispatched from the Baltic Sea port to Egypt, overseen by the St. Petersburg branch of the Federal Center for Evaluation of Safety and Quality of Agri-Industrial Products (FGBU "TsOK APK"). As reported to African Initiative by the press service of TsOK APK, the shipment totaled 27,000 tons.

"Egypt has become the 16th country to receive exported grain products from our branch since the beginning of this year, highlighting the expansion of logistics routes through the Baltic Sea ports. African countries are demonstrating a growing interest in developing new markets, which is reflected by the two visits of foreign delegations in the first months of the year," said Anita Milekhina, Director of the St. Petersburg branch.

Experts from the branch conducted thorough assessments of quality, safety, and carried out fumigation of the export batch. The wheat fully meets Egypt's requirements for safety and quality.

In 2024, Russia supplied over 9 million tons of wheat to Egypt, covering about 75% of the country's total wheat import needs.

Since the start of 2025, Russian grain exports to African nations via Baltic Sea ports have reached 301,000 tons as of April 22—a 2.4-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
