The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has recorded its first recovery from the Ebola virus, according to the local news portal MediaCongo, citing a representative of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).

The recovered patient was treated at a medical center in Ituri province. The INSP called the recovery "an encouraging signal," noting that there are currently no registered vaccines or approved treatments for the Bundibugyo strain.

According to the report, the Director of the National Institute for Biomedical Research, Jean-Jacques Muyembe, assured that efforts to contain the virus in Ituri are ongoing.

Earlier in May, Russia's Rospotrebnadzor announced plans to deliver Russian test systems for detecting the Ebola virus to the Republic of Congo and to train local specialists in diagnostics.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the new Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda as a public health emergency of international concern. The total number of Ebola infections in the DRC has surpassed one thousand.

In response to the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda, authorities in Zambia, Burundi, Tanzania, and Rwanda have announced measures to combat the infection.

Ebola is a severe, acute viral disease with a high fatality rate. Transmission occurs through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals, as well as with contaminated surfaces and materials.
