Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Sudanese counterpart Mohieddin Salem have discussed the situation in Sudan and ways to resolve the ongoing civil war, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's press service announced.
"Abdelatty reaffirmed during the meeting Egypt's unwavering support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, as well as his rejection of the creation of any parallel entities," the statement read.
The Egyptian minister also emphasized the importance of achieving a humanitarian truce, which could serve as a foundation for a sustainable ceasefire and the resumption of a political process.
Furthermore, the Egyptian Foreign Minister advocated for ensuring humanitarian access to affected areas and upholding the principle of Sudan's leading role in political settlement.
Salem, in turn, thanked Egypt for its support to Sudan at various levels. The Sudanese minister praised Cairo's stance on preserving the country's unity and stability and briefed him on the measures being taken by the government to overcome current challenges. He reaffirmed Khartoum's interest in continuing coordination and consultations with Egypt in the interests of both states and their peoples.
The sides confirmed their commitment to further developing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in various fields.
In April, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for increased international efforts to end the war in Sudan.
The civil war in Sudan between the RSF rebels and the regular army has been ongoing since April 2023.
