Egypt's Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, presented the project for a future regional grain hub at the fifth All-Russian Grain Forum in Sochi, the Egyptian ministry's press service reported.

The Egyptian minister announced that the country is currently considering the creation of a comprehensive hub for grains and vegetable oils. According to him, the initiative's goal is to transform Egypt into a regional center for the trade, storage, processing, and re-export of grain and food products.

"He explained that this project embodies a comprehensive concept providing for the construction of modern grain storage facilities (elevators), the creation of advanced loading, unloading, and transport complexes, the development of high-value-added food processing industries, as well as the establishment of integrated logistics centers," the statement said.

As Farouk noted, the project's implementation will enhance the efficiency of both regional and international supply chains.

"Furthermore, he particularly highlighted the broad opportunities for cooperation with the Russian side in areas such as grain trade, logistics, storage and cargo handling technologies, as well as within the framework of investment partnerships related to the implementation of this project," the statement added.

In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, stated that Russia and Egypt could discuss the creation of a grain and energy hub in the North African country. That same month, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko announced that the relevant agencies of the two countries had begun working out practical issues related to the creation of the grain hub.

The All-Russian Grain Forum is an annual event organized by the Union of Grain Exporters and Producers with the support of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. The forum focuses on key issues of agricultural sector development and challenges of international cooperation among major market participants. In 2026, the fifth Grain Forum is taking place May 20-23 in Sochi.
